Tabo was founded by the members of the royal dynasty of Purang-Guge in the west Tibet.Upper Kinnaur ,Spiti ,Lahul,Zanskar and Ladakh come under the nominal rule of the tibetian dynasty in 958.Tabo was set up at the crossroad of two ancient trade routes and a centre of high Buddiest learning.

    The Administrative centre transport hub of Spiti sub-district is an excellent base for your explorations of the spiti Monastery Circit.The old town has a maze of shops,Hotel and whitewashed houses.The new town cross the creek,is a motley cluster of tin-roofed government buildings,where foreign nationals can get their Inner line permits required for spiti and upper kinnaur.one can go for trek from here to Hikim and Kaumim villages.     From kaza a road to north-east goes to Kibber (13796 ft),once part of the overland salt trade.it has a school,a post office,a bank ,a few small guest houses-and from the look of it,more creatures on four legs then two.Kibber has the somewhat doubtful claim to being the highest village In the world at 114009fts,The ladarcha Festival, helh near kibber in july every year,attracts buddhists from far.     Possibly founded in the 13th century,ki is certainly the largest monestery in spiti.Ki is best reached from Kaza(14 Kms),at 13,504ft.one can enjoy nako lake falls on the route from Kinnaur to Spiti. Dhankar (32Kms)
    Once the capital of spiti waziri,the early 16th century fort-monestery Dhankar Gompa (12,763ft),today it has about 150 lamas in residence. it can also be reached after a 2 hr trek,not so easy not quite punishing trek from Dhankar.
  • Lahaul is shaped by the chandra and Bhaga rivers that meet to form the mighty Chenab,lies nort of the Great Himalayan and Pir panjal range and south of the Zanskar range,in far north Himachal.The First pit-stop after crossing the 13,005-foot high Rohtang Pass on the Manali-Leh highway.”.Khoksar is Cul-De-Sac at 10,203ft,Keylong is just 1.5 Hour away.Past khoksar the road cuts across a broad sunny valley fortified by the looming Ghyephang peak(20,997 ft).June to October is the best time to travel lahaul.

    Jipsa (29 kms):- The tiny settlememt of jipsa on the right bank of river Bhaga is situated in a beautiful vale and is the last inhabited village on the road to leh.Its an excellent place for fishing Silver Crap and snow trout.the slopes around jipsa are currently being evaluated for skiing by manali,s Directorate of Mountaineering and Allied sports. Darcha Valley(37 Kms)
    The vast Valley of Darcha is preceded by an astonishing pile of rock rubblethat local lore says buried a whole village in a massive avalanche triggered off in the Zanskar range.The valley is crved by the Bhaga,its only in summer that one can cross the river. Baralacha la (82 Kms)
    To reach the valley of snow or the source of Chandra and Bhaga,Suraj Tal,situated at 15,846 ft on the Baralacha pass,one has to pass the azure coloured Deepak Lake,patseo and Zingzingbar.the latter two are military check posts where foreigners have to snow their Inner line permits.
    Udaipur Sunshine Valley
    Unlike the Chandra and bhaga Valleys of upper Lahual,the road from Tandi to Udaipur takes one through a gently meandering highway that follows river Chenab, to the north of the Chenab is the Pattan Valley,and to its south,the Pengi Valley in neighboring Chamba District.
